Björk Orchestral Live Stream Shows To Aid Women’s Shelter
You are here
Björk will perform three orchestral shows in her homeland of Iceland in August that will be live-streamed to raise money for a domestic women’s charity.
The former Sugarcubes frontwoman, who has now had a 27-year solo music career, will perform with more than 100 Icelandic musicians across three groups during the 5 p.m. GMT performances on Aug. 9, 15 and 23 before a live audience at Reykjavík’s Harpa Hall.
Each concert will feature different songs, with Björk´s instrumental arrangements played by members of the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, flute septet Viibra and Hamrahlíð Choir without electronics or beats.
The performances will raise money and awareness for Kvennaathvarfid, a charity that supports women and immigrants of different origin within Iceland. The shelter was established in 1982 to help women who were unable to stay in their own homes due to violence.
Live stream tickets cost £15 (C$25.63) for one show or £35 ($59.80) for all three. They can be purchased here. Twenty per cent of the proceeds will go to the charity.
In a lengthy message, Björk explained the reasons why she was doing the shows and supporting the charity in a note included in a media release. Read in full (spacing and lower case intentional), below:
