You are here
A tribute concert featuring ex Cream drummer Ginger Baker, Joss Stone, Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson, Roxy Music’s Phil Manzanera, Level 42’s Mark King and Living Colour’s Vernon Reid to celebrate the life of late Cream bassist-singer Jack Bruce will take place almost a year to the day of his passing. All proceeds will go to East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH). The show, entitled "Sunshine of Your Love" after Cream's hit song, will be held Oct. 24 at the London Roundhouse in England.
Bruce was 71 when he died Oct. 25 of liver disease, surrounded at home by his wife, children and grandkids.
According to EACH’s web site, the charity “support(s) families and cares for children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Cambridgeshire, Essex, Norfolk and Suffolk. Our care and support is tailored for the needs of all family members delivered where the families wish — in their own home, at the hospital, in the community or at one of three hospices in Ipswich, Milton and Quidenham."
Cream was a ‘60s blues-rock trio featuring guitarist/singer Eric Clapton, drummer Baker and Bruce. Although the band was only together for two years (1966-1968), it has sold more than 35 million albums (according to the figure on Bruce’s web site), been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Bruce’s solo career would later have him touring as part of Ringo Star’s All Star Band.
Joining Baker, Stone, Anderson, Reid, Manzanera and King on The Sunshine of Your Love bill is Nottingham musician Liam Bailey, singer songwriter Fiona Bevan and Jack Bruce's Big Blues Band, along with more special guests yet to be announced. Nitin Sawhney will be the musical director.
Shawhney is a producer, composer and musician who has worked with everyone from Sting, Sir Paul McCartney, Shakira and Cirque du Soleil.
"Jack Bruce was one of my biggest heroes when I was growing up – a consummate musician, composer and all round rock genius with a killer voice and one of the most creative and versatile musical minds of his generation,” Sawhney said in a press release. “Being asked to musically direct this show celebrating his life and work is a great honour and privilege and I look forward to working with an amazing line up of contemporary artists and rock legends.”Supreme
