About Us/Support Us

Sick of tabloid news? Samaritanmag.com doesn't care who is dating whom, who gained weight in Hollywood, and who might be engaged. Samaritanmag.com is for those people sick of tabloid news and invasive, silly stories. Supported by Slaight Family Foundation, Samaritanmag.com is an online magazine that covers the good deeds and efforts of Samaritans —  individuals, charities, small businesses and corporations — anyone trying to make a difference in the world. Good people trying to change bad things is the way we describe it.

Our journalists have interviewed Larry King, Ed Sheeran, Rush, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne, Yoko Ono, Robbie Robertson, Tegan and Sara, Fran DrescherSamuel L. Jackson, Drake, Neil Young, One Direction, Metallica, Billy Talent, Ron HowardThe Who's Pete Townshend, Jack Johnson, P. Diddy, Nelly Furtado, Glee's Matthew Morrison, Motley Crue, Backstreet Boys, Slash, Selena Gomez, Simple Plan, Vampire Diaries' Ian Somerhalder, and dozens more for Samaritanmag.

We need your help and support too, in order to pay our writers and increase content and exposure. We are a small independent operation (the founder/editor and a handful of professional freelance journalists). If you like what we do, please contact us to sponsor a page or a section, a story or the whole site or advertise your own cause or corporate giving with a banner ad or video. If you are particularly philantropic and would like to make a donation to sponsor a writer for a year or the site in general, please contact ads@samaritanmag.com Tel: 416-530-0930 M-F 9-5

Aboout Samaritanmag's Founder:

Samaritanmag.com is the creation of Toronto's Karen Bliss, a woman with a fantastic job as a music journalist (hence the music-heavy content and skull-with-halo-in-spiky-sun logo) who is ready to give back through her connections, skills and efforts. She still covers music for Billboard and many others, which she loves — and won Music Journalist of the Year at the 2013 Canadian Music & Broadcast Industry Awards — but is inspired every day by the samaritan stories she encounters for the site.

The aim of Samaritanmag.com is to provide others with the information, incentive and impetus to do the same. Citizens of all ages are showing increased willingness to give back, whether through volunteer efforts, charitable donation, or steps at home to better society. Businesses are doing the same, practicing corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Samaritanmag.com is a content driven site with high journalistic standards; the stories are original — interviews done with our writers for the online magazine — and not taken or repurposed from other sites, as is often the case in today's media world. Even short news pieces are only taken from the original press releases. Why is this important? Because Samaritanmag articles are fact-checked and comprised of information directly from the source.

But the content is not entirely weighty. Our changing "We Care" cover taglines are fun and flippant, and point up the public's boredom with outrageous and invasive tabloid coverage. Samaritans know there are more important things going on in the world than who broke up and who had plastic surgery. There is poverty, global warming, HIV/AIDS, cancer, animal welfare, childhood obesity, war and a host of other causes that people are passionate about.

Samaritanmag.com covers diverse social issues from the state of the environment to humanitarian efforts and from charitable organizations to options for social betterment. From issues in developing countries to our own backyard, from major profiles and investigative pieces to products and services, Samaritanmag is the place to find it.
